The rising sun cast its orange glow on the sky above the expressway. The sunlight forecasted a good beginning to our trip to Caliraya Island, which was part of this year’s Frost Team Building.

During the trip, anticipation for the competition, namely the Unity Walk, Minefield, Slide Pinoy, and Canoe Relay (more on those activities later).

What added even more excitement was the attendance of Frost’s new members. Among them was Miro, our new Project Coordinator, who was both thrilled and slightly nervous. "It's a pretty new and somewhat strange experience," he shared since he hadn't had the chance to get to know everyone yet.

The Arrival

Upon arriving, the team needed to embark on yet another journey toward Caliraya Island. As they settled down on the boat, they began traversing a short path of the calm lake surrounded by nature, providing a refreshing view far away from the busy streets of the city.

As everyone arrived on the island, the anticipation for the upcoming adventure grew. “ Once we stepped foot in Caliraya, I felt this excitement, and I knew that our team could win, easy peasy!” Mariel, a designer, and member of the blue team, said

The HR team welcomed everyone as they entered the activity room. Everyone was eager to settle down and engage in discussions with their respective teams because, in less than an hour, the games would commence!

Quest for the Hidden “Treasure”

In the first game, Unity Walk, the team displayed remarkable synchronization as they figured out how to maneuver through the challenging course, setting a strong precedent for their performance throughout the competition.

For the next game, the teams faced yet another game that put not only their coordination to the test but, more importantly, their communication skills. The Minefield required one team member to guide their blindfolded teammates, and with their precise guidance, the blindfolded members navigated through the dangers of the minefield!

Away from the minefield, the members embarked on an exciting journey toward Slide Pinoy. Simply put, it's a mini-zipline where each team member slides to the other side and races back with all their might, passing the slide to the next person. The objective is clear - the first team to complete the challenge wins!

For the final game, it is time to put their trust and a touch of their balancing skills to the test with the Canoe Relay! Each team will have two sets of three members who will venture onto the serene waters of the small lake in Caliraya. Their task is to paddle to the opposite end and navigate the canoe back to the starting line to win!

Once again, Blue Team gained victory!

As the battle drew close, what seemed like hours turned into mere minutes. Mariel, a designer, and member of the blue team, couldn’t believe how quickly the day had passed. “I wish there were more activities since we had the whole day for it.” Expressing her desire for more activities, she believes that additional games would foster more opportunities for the team to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Back in the main hall, the teams settled down again to recharge themselves with a satisfying lunch. While regaining their energy, Leigh and JP took the stage to announce this year's Team Building winner.

Drum roll, the moment of truth arrived, and the blue team emerged victorious! After winning three of the games, Minefield, Slide Pinoy, and Canoe Relay, they not only secured a cash prize but also demonstrated exceptional skills and teamwork, enabling them to conquer the challenges presented to them with remarkable success.

New Adventures on the Island

After a morning filled with intense competition, the participants finally had the chance to unwind and enjoy some well-deserved free time. The island was filled with different activities everyone could enjoy or simply face their fears.

The island offers a diverse set of activities for everyone to enjoy or simply confront their fears and embrace an adrenaline-fueled experience.

Some of the members, including Clarence, a designer, and member of the black team, had the opportunity to experience the exhilarating ride of the Sky Bicycle. Who would have imagined humans riding bicycles up in the air? It was truly a gratifying experience, pushing individuals to challenge themselves to go out of their comfort zones.

Meanwhile, Dhei, a recruitment specialist and member of the black team, had the chance to experience the Zipline along with her teammates. During this adventure, she also got to know the others. "It was enjoyable trying these activities with them (the team)," said Dhei.

Amidst the afternoon heat, everyone made use of their leisure time by trying out new activities and creating friendships. It’s one great way to end a day filled with shared joy and a sense of accomplishment.

The Reward

As the team left Caliraya, Bea expressed both joy and contentment, “It was both tiring and incredibly fun! Seeing the team members in person is a rarity, so I cherished every moment.” bringing back an array of unforgettable memories, Bea felt a sense of fulfillment.

Inching away from the island, something occurred to most of us. The real treasure isn’t found on the island but within each individual. The journey they embarked on as a team revealed a treasure far more valuable than any material thing.

These connections were the true gems unearthed during their adventure. The laughter shared, the victories celebrated, and the challenges conquered forged an unbreakable bond serving as a source of inspiration that would allow them to grow continuously.

“On behalf of the Talent Management Group team, it brings us great joy to see our company's diverse talents come together,” said  Ian, our Talent Acquisition and Development Partner.

“Today, we have once again witnessed exceptional teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills on display – qualities that testify to our company's commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.”

She continued by adding an inspiring reminder stating, “I hope everyone will remember the connections we've made and the skills we've developed here today. Let's carry this enthusiasm and camaraderie back to our work while inspiring each other to reach new heights. As we always say, together, we can be 1% better every day.”

“As we wrap up, let's keep the momentum going. I am looking forward to everyone's participation and effort in joining our team-building activities in the future,” Ian said as she shared her final thoughts for this year’s team-building activity.

With their shared experiences, it had bestowed upon them a treasure chest filled with memories of camaraderie and friendships.‍
